RE: How do you train a dog about Traffic?

Thanks for all the tips. If I dismiss yours it's not my fault, it's just that I know these dogs by their nature. A super soaker seems reasonable except that both dogs are nuts about water. You could turn a fire hose on the Lakeland and she would go after the source. The more water pressure the better is her motto! Same with the Welch, except he's not as fanatical as the Lakeland. I've had the pleasure of obedience training a Weimaraner, his need to fulfill your commands and directions was almost embarrassing and a non challenge. On the other hand a terrier has this brain thing that is almost akin to a human trying to decide on who to vote for. Example; should I listen to what my pack leader wants or do I have to think about it a little more? Anyone who has had the pleasure of being part of a terrier pack knows of this breeds particular feature, if not, you soon will. I get training separately, the sit, down, and stay commands being the best solution. I've also looked into e-collars that have a praise tone as well as the stop tone and electrocution mode when you really mean it. I promise I will do my best and report back any successes with whatever method I try. Unless I prevail, the next post may well be from my dogs. Thanks again for the support, Arborist

RE: How do you train a dog about Traffic?

I think my first area to correction is to train one dog at a time. My Welsh terrier is very eager to please and learns easily, (male 5 year old) My other terrier is a Lakeland (4 year old female) She is totally off the hook. She absolutely quakes with enthusiasm and drive. She is half the size of the Welsh, but dominant over him. She always takes twice the correction to get the idea of what I want her to achieve, and has a problem with retention. I love both dogs dearly, but I would not recommend a Lakeland terrier to anyone that does not want a challenge. (think of a hyper Jack Russell terrier and multiply by two fold!) I get that the main focus is the "stay," command here, and I will try to separate these critters and work with them on an individual basis. My training get sidetracked when they are walked together, and the competition begins. Is there a teqnuqie to get these dogs to work as a unit, and not as adversaries? It sure would make my life easier! Thank you for your comments and suggestions, they are appreciated. Best, Arborist

How do you train a dog about Traffic?

As the topic suggests, I have two terriers. Neither one is car savvy. They are always leashed. If a car goes by too fast, one will lunge at it like it's trying to bite the tires. I make them stop and sit at intersections if there is traffic and warn them, "car!", then when it's OK to proceed I tell them good dog and we cross. I'm quite sure if they were off lead they would run out into traffic and get squashed immediately. Any additional tips on turning on their brains about the dangers of traffic, without making them afraid to approach their own car to go for a ride?. (which they love) Thanks for any advice.

RE: Pinnacle TV for Mac HD mini Stick

I've used Pinnacle product for the PC, video cards and software, both were buggy especially the drivers. As far as the Mac platform This product has better reviews. Best, Arborist

RE: Proper operation of water pump

If your pump is a Shureflow Extreme 7.5 is has this built in surge feature just to aggravate you! There is a set screw on the front of this pump that you can turn in to help fix this problem. Just a wild guess. Best, Arborist

RE: Which Garmin ti buy?

One of the main sticking points with 3 rd party applications is that almost all of the software files for the Garmin products are encrypted. So transferring routes, etc is problematic.

RE: Long Dually Valves not just extentions!

I just bought a custom solid brass 6 piece set for $130 from the tire-man: http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~tire-man/default.html Les Schwab did an install on all 6 tires complete with balancing for under $200 bucks. (I did tip the mechanic $20 for taking his time and doing the job right) That meant keeping the rest of the tire guys from jumping in on the job and helping out as their apt to do. I had one solid steel extenders prior to this that failed in the driveway, instead of on the road. I would recommend this outfit due to the fact that the instructions are clear, and everything is included in the package even Lock Tight for the extenders. Best, Arborist

RE: generator oil synthetic ?

After stopping at Camping World twice to be told they were out of stock for the 10W-30 blended synthetic my genny takes I did some research. The consensus was that if you stayed with the same viscosity and API rating it would work just fine. I decided to use Mobile 1 10W-30 in my Onan 4kw that has only 15 hours on it. The only difference I could tell afterwards, was that the genny ran quieter. The only problem I've seen was changing from dino to a synthetic in a 2 cycle engine; it busted all the carbon off the cylinder walls and deposited it in the spark plug gap! (outboard motor) Some will disagree as there has always been a debate on this subject, this is just my take. Best, Arborist

RE: Attwood restarts after reaching temperature?

"The ECO and Tstat are held to the tank clips with a spring type wire. They CANNOT vibrate loose. Find WHY they came loose." I don't know how they came loose, but when I peeled back the piece of black foam that covered them, the springs on both thermostats were out of the clips and the thermostats were pulled away from the tank. "The Pop Off when it blew, should NOT have allowed water to the inside of the unit. Find the reason the water came inside and seal those areas." The pressure relief valve is in the same outside area as everything else, when it blew it was like being next to an old steam locomotive, with the steam being trapped by the access door. The folks here have more experience than most technicians! "NO, THE FOLKS HERE JUST THINK THEY HAVE THE EXPERIANCE BUT NOT THE KNOWLEDGE OF TRAINED TECHNICIANS" Be that as it may, I couldn't find an Atwood certified technician to work on this year old unit under warranty in the Phoenix area, I tried several places with basically the same response; we'll get back to you, so I reattached the thermostats myself. "Atwood sells the ECO and the TSTAT as a package. Replace both and make sure they are installed correctly." It could be the ECO shutting down and then re-closing. I would replace both the thermostat and the ECO. Enblethen Moses Lake Seems like Enblethen and Doug are on the same page with the same advice on what needs to be done. So I think I'll take the consensus and run with it. BTW, what does ECO stand for? Thanks for your posts, they were both appreciated. Best, Arborist

Attwood restarts after reaching temperature?

I can't figure out if this is the 140 degree thermostat, or the logic board doing this: Attwood 6 gal fires up and runs normally, once it reaches 140 degrees it shuts off, but then tries to fire up again immediately. The red indicator light comes on after the failed re-ignition, but then it tries to fire up again and again. This problem started after both thermostats vibrated loose from the tank and the pressure relief valve blew off while I was sitting next to the unit in the morning having a cup of coffee. Needless to say a quiet morning turned into a rush to shut off the city water and the water heater! The inside if the unit was soaked from the pressure relief valve doing it's job. Now we have to turn on the hot water, wait for the first cycle to end, then run into the MH to turn it off so it won't try to restart. If it is the logic board and I have to get a new one, I think I'll coat it in epoxy. If it's the thermostat, I think I'll replace it with the new adjustable one available since 140 degrees is way too hot anyway. Any guesses on my problem will be appreciated. I'll take the consensus and run with it. The folks here have more experience than most technicians! Thanks, Arborist

RE: Bellingham, WA to San Diego in February.

Will there be snow in the Siskiyou's? Well maybe. We stay in Grants Pass, then head to Red Bluff. It's a short leg, but it takes you over the worst part of the pass. Good parks on both ends. The timing of the Grapevine is irrelevant, consider four semi's side by side, with a 40 MPH wind gusts. They must have engineered this stretch on drugs, because you'll need some after you go through here to calm you down later. Remember, you'll be driving along with some of the most considerate folks once you get in California! Good luck, Arborist

RE: Synthetic mix Vs Full Synthetic?

I've made up my mind to go with Mobile 1, the viscosity issue is directly related to the temperature / conditions you'll be running the engine at. I'll check the manual to get the API specs, but I'm pretty sure it will be a higher then what Onan states is needed. Since lubrication is provided by a "splash system." I'd rather have the extra lubrication that a synthetic oil delivers. Thanks for the pro & cons in this discussion thread. Best, Arborist

RE: Synthetic mix Vs Full Synthetic?

Since this is a generator that doesn't get used much; we don't do much boon docking. I feel more comfortable going to a full synthetic. It only gets run about once a month with some load on it just for exercise if I ever have to rely on it in the future. I guess my last part of this puzzle would be the durations between oil changes using a full Synthetic Vs the Onan brand of blended oil. The genny is two years old and has only 24 hours on the clock. Do I still follow the manual on oil change intervals in this case, or is the change interval extended? Thanks!

Synthetic mix Vs Full Synthetic?

Any problems going from a blended synthetic to a full synthetic? I did that once in a 2 cycle outboard and it pulled all the carbon off the chamber walls and deposited it in the spark plug gap! I imagine since the Onan isn't 2 cycle it wouldn't do the same thing. But it never hurts to ask. Thanks, Arborist

2006 Onan 4KW Oil Replacement?

First, it blows my mind that this generator only takes 1.6 quarts of oil for an oil change, and has no oil filter! Been by Camping World twice in two months to buy two quarts of oil, both times they were out of stock. I was told that Onan oil is a synthetic blend. Stands to reason one could buy a different brand of synthetic blended oil of the same viscosity and use it in the generator. What are your recommendations? Thanks, Arborist
